How to fix any Hexbug robot

.

I have noticed that the Hexbug robotic creatures are pretty popular gifts for kids during Christmas. If you are experiencing any kind of problem with your Hexbug, try any of the troubleshooting options below.

1. Reverse the batteries (a lot of these robots are shipped out with the batteries facing the wrong way)

2. Remove anything that is caught inside the robot. For example, dirt maybe clogging the robot's gear box.

3. Replace the old batteries with the new ones.

4. Replace the batteries in the remote controllers (for the inchworm, spider, slider XL, and scarab XL.

5. Make sure your robot and it's controller are on the same channel (A or B)

Thanks for reading and if you're experiencing any other problems, then comment below and I'll see what I can do.

Homemade PCB for a new robot

.

After messing around with a lot of wires in my projects, I decided to make my own PCB. For this PCB forging method, I used ferric chloride (Iron(III) Chloride) and an ordinary permanent marker. I first cut the copper clad into a small shape. After that, I drew on the design and then placed it into the etching solution. Roughly 20 minutes later, the PCB was ready! The only thing left to do was dispose of the Copper Chloride (because it had copper in it) . To dispose of the acid, I poured baking soda (a base) into a bucket with the acid. It then reacted to form a safe byproduct that can be placed in a bag and tossed away. Thanks for reading and more updates will be posted soon! Merry Christmas!

Our Methodology

.

We apply the following tools to achieve our outcomes:

• Just In Time Manufacturing; Single Piece Flow, Pull Systems, Kanban, Cellular Manufacturing, Point of Use Warehousing, etc.
• Reduced Set Up and Cycle Time
• Visual Factory/Industrial Housekeeping (5S System)
• Problem Solving Techniques
• Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Techniques
• Team oriented development and implementation
• ISO 9000 documentation
• Office and plant layout designs

Playing catch with a humanoid robot? No problem!

.

Usually playing catch is played between two people. As of now, catch can be played with a robot. Developers at Disney Research Labs have created a humanoid robot that is capable of throwing and catching a ball with its hand. To start, a camera locates the ball, then the ball's destination is predicted. Once that is done, the robot's hand is positioned in the ball's predicted destination. Resulting in the robot catching the ball. To see a demonstration, click the video above!

Precision CNC. . . What is CNC?

.

Numerical control (NC) is the automation of machine tools that are operated by abstractly programmed commands encoded on a storage medium, as opposed to controlled manually via handwheels or levers, or mechanically automated via cams alone. The first NC machines were built in the 1940s and 1950s, based on existing tools that were modified with motors that moved the controls to follow points fed into the system on punched tape. These early servomechanisms were rapidly augmented with analog and digital computers, creating the modern computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools that have revolutionized the machining processes.
In modern CNC systems, end-to-end component design is highly automated using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) programs. The programs produce a computer file that is interpreted to extract the commands needed to operate a particular machine via a postprocessor, and then loaded into the CNC machines for production. Since any particular component might require the use of a number of different tools—drills, saws, etc., modern machines often combine multiple tools into a single "cell". In other cases, a number of different machines are used with an external controller and human or robotic operators that move the component from machine to machine. In either case, the complex series of steps needed to produce any part is highly automated and produces a part that closely matches the original CAD design. [Text courtesy of Wikipedia]

The latest Call of Duty features robotic warfare

.

Today, Call of Duty Black Ops 2 was released all across the nation. In the newest copy/paste Call of Duty game, robots play a huge role. For example, the cheesy storyline is when the enemies takes control of America's robots, or as the trailer states, "gets the keys." The setting is also in 2025, which gives us a clue that these robots could be right around the corner. In the latest trailer, two quadruped robots and multiple quadrotors are shown. These two robots easily resemble BigDog. In addition, FPS Russia was showing off the quadrotor drones. Even though those types of robots can't carry a gun, I'm sure it won't be long until DARPA reveals one. Thanks for reading and check out the video above to see the robot-friendly trailer!

ABB's new "Dragon" is the fastest industrial robot to date

.

The last time I wrote a post about a fast robot, it was related to the soda can challenge. Yet again, ABB has succeeded in making a fast and agile robotic arm. Dragon, as they call it, is currently the fastest industrial robot in the world. It's designed to make computer mice efficiently and productively. If you want to see this robot in action, then check out the video above.

DARPA's new "Pet-Proto" robotcan avoid obstacles and climb stairs

.

A few days ago, DARPAtv (the youtube channel for DARPA) uploaded a video showing off their latest robot named Pet-Proto. The robot was given the challenge of climbing stairs and avoiding a huge gap in a given path. With all the new technology that was out into this robot, it was able to climb the stairs with little effort. It also got past the gap by spreading it's arms and legs to grip the nearby wall to traverse right through. All these tasks were achievable because of Pet-Proto's specially designed legs. If your interest in this bot, then check out the video above!

Video Thursdays: Nao Gangnam style

Portraits drawn by simple robotic arms

.

Wouldn't it be awesome if a robot drew a portrait of you? If you think so, then give a round of applause to "6 robots named Paul." These servo driven arm robots were demonstrated at the Merge Festival 2012 in London. Since the festival was partly dedicated to art, these bots fit right in. With just 4 servos and a computer, each robot was able to draw a dazzling portrait. It's obvious that these bots were the real McCoy when it came to artistic ability. If you don't believe me, then just check out the video above. Anyways, thanks for reading and feel free to comment below!

Say hello to Naro-Tartaruga, the new robotic turtle

.

Bio-inspired robots always tend to fascinate me, whether there bugs, birds, or even dogs. Now there's even a robotic turtle in the making. Researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology began a project back in 2010 called "Naro-Tartaruga." It's a robotic turtle that will be used for underwater robotics research. Since this robot can mimic the movements of a real turtle, swimming underwater won't be that big of a problem. Multiple actuators connected to each wooden fin enable the robot to have smooth and fluid-like movements just like a real turtle. The robot's hull is so tough that it even can withstand water pressure at a depth of 300 ft. Right now, the most recent video of this robot shows off the smooth fin movement. Thanks for reading and check out, www.naro.ethz.ch for more info on this nautical robot!

New robotic bees to be pollinating flowers by 2015!

.

Lately, Micro-sized robots have been buzzing around the web. Some people think there's a conspiracy of a robotic spy mosquito. However, instead of a spying mosquito, we now have a pollinating robotic bee. Scientists at the University of Sheffield and Suffex in England have started a new project which aims to create robotic bees. Since real bees are dying out, they believe that robotic bees are necessary to them in an environment. The solution they have in mind is to create micro-sized robotic bees that have the ability to pollinate flowers just like a normal bee. Even if the real bees die out soon, they speculate that these bots should be buzzing around by 2015. Thank for reading and check out the video above for more info!

Thanks for reading and be sure to plus one us on Google+ !

Meet Miimo, Honda's new lawn mowing robot

.

Usually, when it comes to robotics, Honda is always focused on improving Asimo. However, this time it's a whole new kind of robot. "Miimo" is what they call it, and it's pretty high tech when you compare it to other robotic lawn mowers. For example, it cuts grass 2-3 mm at a time, multiple times a week to ensure your lawn is looking better than your neighbors. It uses a wide variety of sensors to get the job done right. To know that's it's mowing the right area, it stays within the borders of wire installed under ground. Safety is also important, so Honda threw in two lift sensors which when activated, shuts down the robot completely. To be activated again, a PIN code is required. That feature is also good for dealing with theft.
Charging is simple too. Miimo is always checking it's battery levels, and when they are low, it returns back to the charging dock. All in all, this new robot seems pretty neat, and if you hate mowing your lawn, then you may want to consider getting this robot. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed today's post.

4 armed robot can play the drums

.

Today, I just decided to share this video in a post instead of writing about it. Hope you enjoy the robot's tunes!

New robotic targets used at shooting ranges

.

Currently most military shooting ranges use pop-up targets for soldiers to practice using their weapons. Later on in the future, this may change. We can already see some new target technology being developed and used today. Take Dynamic Robotics wheeled robots for example. They can be remote controlled around the range, and simulate moving hostile enemies. When it's not being controlled via remote control, it's executing a program that marks a path for it to follow. All these new methods make the shooting range a more realistic and better practicing environment for the soldiers. Thanks for reading and check out the video above to see the robot in the line of fire!

The robotic air purifier, airs new best friend

.

When we think of air purifiers we tend to think of motionless machines with vents. However, with new robotics technology, air purifiers can now be mobile and automated machines. Let's take the Moneual Rydis H800 Robot for example. It's able to move around its environment using a range of motors and sensors. The sensors help it detect objects, while the motors take care of getting around. It's air purifying technology is basically the same as opposed to any other air purifying machine, except this one can clean more air because it can move around. Charging is a breeze with this robot too. Simply plug the bot into it's charger for two and a half hours, an you get a four hour running time in return. Thanks for reading and check out the video above to see this robot being showed off at the CES 2012!

New patrol robot to be used by Austin, Texas police

.

Police in Austin, Texas have obtained a new patrol robot. It's small, durable, and can be sent into houses to check for suspects and hostile intruders. The robot is named "ARA Pointman." The police of Austin also have the intention of using this robot to patrol the streets. The robot itself has a camera, four wheels, a signal receiver, and strong motors. It's camera is used so the user can see the robot's environment. The motors help the robot push open doors and climb stairs with ease. It's remote controlled so the police have complete control of this tough little bot. Thanks for reading and check out the video above to see it in action!

Robot made by High school students to pitch at tigers baseball game

.

The most automated pitching machine I have seen is just a curved tube with a motor. Now, it's a robot built by high school students. Developed by the Detroit-area high school students, this robot is fully capable of hurling a baseball at some stunning speeds. The name chosen for this awesome robot is "Cy-ber Young." The robot uses a SCUBA tank to force a large amount of air through a PVC pipe, and then the air shoots the baseball out. The robot is the size of a shopping cart, so it's basically just a remote controlled pea shooter. Thanks for reading and check back tomorrow to see a video of this robot pitching the baseball!

"SimpleBots" The awesome robot collection

.

I have been interested in making simple, yet fascinating robots for a long time. After being on instructables and YouTube for a while, I have found a particular user that makes simple robots. His username is "randofo" and he makes robots called "SimpleBots." All of his robots are made from household materials and some basic electronic parts. For example, a tennis ball robot, and plastic box robot, and even a phone walker robot. All of these robots can be found on instructables.com and at youtube.com/user/randofo . Thanks for reading and check out one of his robots above!

MIT creates new robotic worm

.

Next time you see a worm on the ground it could be robotic. Developers at MIT have created a mesh like worm robot. It uses small electrical currents to move the artificial muscle inside the mesh body. Since this robot uses no motors at all, its energy consumption is very low. Just like a real worm, this robot is soft and it has multiple segments. Some say that this type of robot could be used in the military as a spy bot. Overall, it's pretty amazing that this robot moves just like a real worm. If you want to see it in action, then check out the video above, and thanks for reading!

Arduino voice recognition robot!

.

Most Arduino robots that I've seen use a sketch (program) to be controlled. However, this one uses awesome voice control! The robot consists of a plastic chassis, an Arduino, and a special shield that enables the robot to be controlled via voice commands. It moves using two motors hooked up to wheels and so far it can move forward, backward, right, and left. If you interested in seeing this robot, then you can check out the first test video above. Thanks and check back tomorrow for another robot post!

Plastic cup "transformer" robot

.

A few days ago, I got out the arduino board, some servos, and a plastic cup. A few lines of code and some hot glue was all it took to make this simple transformer robot. The robot itself was crafted out of a plastic cup and it's arms were small pieces from each side of the cup. Small feather servos moved each arm revealing that's it's not just an ordinary cup. If your interested in this robot, then check out the video above to see it in action!

Curiosity has successfully landed!

.

Thanks to a remarkable combination of engineering and mathematics, a NASA satellite in orbit around Mars was able to capture the split second when Curiosity fell from the skies to its successful landing on the surface of the red planet.
The popular mars rover, Curiosity, has successfully landed on mars and is now ready to explore! Fortunately no problems such as rocket failures, big rocks, loose sand, and dust stems occurred. As a result Curiosity is now on the mysterious red planet.

Curiosity to land very soon!

.

Currently right now it's 1:00 AM eastern time. At around 1:30 AM the "7 minutes of terror" will occur, as the robot descends down to the red planet. If you want to watch it live, then go to http://www.ustream.tv/nasajpl right now!

NASA: landing "curiosity" on mars

.

If you don't who "Curiosity" is then don't worry, because its just the latest mars rover. Today, on Youtube Trends, I found a video on how NASA is going to land the robot on the surface of mars itself. If you thought that the robot only needs a few rockets and a parachute, then think again! Im not going to go into detail about the video, but just check it out for yourself.

New real life giant mech robot!

.

Well, it looks like the Japanese have beaten us again in the field of robotics. This time they have created a 13-foot Mech robot that actually moves! The video that unveiled this robot was uploaded on July 30th, so this is a completely new robot. In the video, it shows the robot moving its waist and arms. It also shows a visual on how the robot sees it's environment. At least it sees in multiple colors instead of the creepy red terminator vision. The robot itself can be controlled by a pilot or by a smart phone (Yay, just what we need. Anybody with a smart phone can control a deadly and hostile robot!). The robot has four wheels for mobility, a 30 joint exoskeleton, claws to pick things up, and it can even shoot fireworks! Thanks for reading and check out the video above to see this bot in action!

.

Heres my latest Sphero video, Enjoy!

Nao: evolution of dance

.

If you remembered YouTube user, TheAmazel, then you already know about his amazing Nao videos. The most popular video he has made was uploaded just a few weeks ago and it already has over 300,000 views. The reason it's popular is because it's a collection of dance moves performed by Nao himself. If you like the original evolution of dance, then I'm sure you'll enjoy this video too!

iRobot HQ tour!

.

Ever wanted to see the inside of iRobot's HQ? Well now you can. Just yesterday, YouTube user GerbilGod7 uploaded a video tour of the headquarters. The video shows some amazing robots developed by the company itself. It even shows prototypes and research projects. If your a fan of iRobot like I am, then I highly recommend this video.

Review of the sphero robotic ball

.

Today, I was lucky enough to get a Sphero robotic ball at Brookstone. Once I got home, I ripped open the box and put the bot to the test. Just like in the video ad by Orbotix, this robotic ball really rolls smoothly and it's capabilities with an iPod are truly amazing. I have yet to encounter a problem with this little robot. My favorite features are that I can change it's color and the robot charges using wireless induction technology. Thanks for reading and check out the video above to see my review and use of the Sphero robotic ball.

CNN video: Robots vs. terrorists

.

A new robotics video was uploaded today by the official CNN YouTube channel. The video features a SWAT team using a small robot scout to help them capture a criminal. They talk about how the little robot can help them during certain operations. The robot itself has two all terrain wheels, a camera, microphone, and even IR sensors. All these high tech features help law enforcement officers capture the criminals and save the day. Thanks for reading and check out the video above to see the bot in action!

New hexapillar hexbug is merged with a target gift card

.

Finally! A new hexbug is here. This time, however, it's not just a robot. It's a robot and a gift card all in one. Although its a new hexbug, it's basically just a hexbug nano with a caterpillar design and some attachable wings. When the wings are attached, the bot resembles a butterfly. Hopefully in the next few months a completely new hexbug will be released an not just a variant of the nano. Thanks for reading and next time your take a trip to target, check these little things out!

For example their latest review was posted on July 9th and its all about the Lego Mindstorms kit. They even write tutorials for people that are interested in building their own fully functional robot. The site is well designed and very easy to navigate through. I rate it an 8/10 for quality and content. Thanks for reading and click here to visit the site!

New robot caterpillar made from bamboo

.

Most robots today are constructed and have a chassis made out of metal and or plastic. However, this bot differs from them all. Instead, it's made out of pieces of bamboo. The pieces are attached to the servos with hot glue (I think there are 2 servos, but I'm not sure). The bot's battery pack is on one end and this includes 4 AA batteries. The robots size is the reason the power supply is so minute when you compare to other robots. Thanks for reading and check out the video below to see it in action!

NXT robot solves rubiks cube

.

I know this video is not new, but I think some of you would like to see this. The NXT robot in the video above uses a clever program, a light sensor, and it's servos to completely solve the cube. Hope you enjoy the video!

My view on telepresence robots

.

It also includes a short bio. Here's the URL of you're interested in reading it, http://www.telepresencerobots.com/our-world-telepresence-robots-interview-morgan-andrews-simplebotics .

Robot plays "rock paper scissors" and wins 100% of the time

.

Usually we just play rock paper scissors with each other, but now theres a robot that can play too! Developed at the University of Tokyo, this robot is able to win every game 100% of the time. It's high speed cameras allow this to happen by tracking the opponents hand movements. After it detects the movement and formation of the hand, it quickly makes a move to beat the opponent. All this happens in a split second too. You can check out the below above to see it in action. Thanks for reading and check back tomorrow for a new post!

ABB robot plays snooker

.

The precision of these robots are just absolutely stunning. Especially when they can move the tips of there arms in and out of a line of pool balls. This just comes to show that these robots really are advanced.

Robotic arm controlled via flex sensor

.

In this video I found on youtube, it shows a robot hobbyist controlling his robotic arm with a flex sensor. The sensor is attached to a glove, and when he bends his fingers (the fingers are in the glove obviously) the robot arm then moves. Thinks thats interesting, then check out the video above!

Beam junk robot

.

With all the scrap parts laying around my work bench, I just decided to make a beam junk bot. So I did, and it turns out the 3V solar panel really makes the motor run. Unlike my other solar vibrobots at least. Check out the video above to see it in action!

Keep your eye's peeled for a new hexbug

.

It's been a while now since a new hexbug has been released. It only took a few months for the scarab to be released after the larva came out. This means that a new hexbug could come out any time. I'll keep you guys updated and if any pictures get leaked ill be sure to update you immediately Thanks for reading and what do you think the new hexbug robot will be?

New robot can differentiate textures

.

If we pick up a brick, we can feel thats it's texture is rough. Unlike humans, most robots can't tell the difference between textures of objects. Unless your robot developed at USC Viterbi School of Engineering. For example, there studies have made robotic fingers have the capability of telling the difference of an object's texture. In the video below they talk about their experiments. One of which includes testing 117 different textures with their robotic finger. Thanks for reading and check out the video below to learn more about this robotic's technology!

Welcome to the uncanny valley

.

I've seen some pretty freaky robots that fall in to the abyss of the uncanny valley. However, this one falls in deeper than any other bot.

New Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots Revealed by Tomy

.

Yet again, Tomy will be releasing another toy to the market. They call them BattroBorgs, and they're little Rock 'Em sock 'Em robots. Just like in the movie "Real Steal." However, unlike there older brothers from the 80's, these bots are controlled with a remote that kind of looks like that of a Wii. They are also equipped with LED's on there backs that indicate how many hits they have received from the opponent. These bots also do not require any batteries, but do recharge with the controller. Charging time is double the amount of play time so thats a downside right there. Anyways, if your interested in buying these little guys then you may have to wait until the end of this year. Thanks for reading and check out the video above to them in action!

Tomy introduces i-SODOG, the new robotic dog

.

A while back, Tomy released i-SOBOT. It was the smallest humanoid robot available and it was pretty impressive too. However, kids will soon have a chance to have an artificial dog named i-SODOG in Spring of 2013. The robot is equipped with custom made servos, LED eyes, and a microphone. The servos enable it to perform realistic moves like a real dog would do. The eyes make it look like its from the future, and the microphone makes it capable of being voice controlled. The robot dog can be controlled with an RC controller or with a smart phone via blue tooth connection. Now its not up for sale now but I have calculated that the price will be around $400.00 since the price in Japan is 31500 yen. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed today's post!
