robot learns to clean whiteboard

Some people hate cleaning whiteboards, and that's where HOAP-2 comes in handy. However this robot doesn't actually know how to clean, but it can memorize the pattern in which to move its robotic arms. To do that a human has to come up to the robot, moves its arms to the pattern of the cleaning method, and then the robot plays the movements back like a simple program. Check it out in the video. new humming bird drone gets airbourne

A robot hummingbird demonstrates precision hovering and independent. The two-wing, flapping aircraft carries its own energy source, and uses only the flapping wings for propulsion and control.

 Engineers at AeroVironmen have constructed a new robot drone, with the help of DARPA. This robot mimicks the movements of a hummingbird and it is able to fly backwards, forwards, and rotate clockwise/counterclockwise. Although it is slightly larger than a real hummingbird it looks pretty impressive when its flying. The "bird" is equiped with a micro-sized spy camera and it can sneak up on its subject without alerting him or her because it mimicks a bird and not a big UAV. This is only the beginning of spy drone technology, and maybe in the future we could have spy gnats or flys. Thanks for reading and what do you think would be a good drone? Japan reveals new cooking robot

In japan, robots just don't work at the assembly line, they are getting ready to work at fine restaurants. Motoman SDA10, manufactured by Yaskawa electric is a new dexterous dual-armed robot chef. Motoman showed off its ability to cook a okonomiyaki (japanese pancakes) at the International Next Generation Robot Fair. Just like a human chef it depends on speech recognition to take verbal orders from its customers. Motoman has 15 servos all over its body, 7 in each arm, and one in its torso to turn. Using common kitchen tools, it mixes the okonomiyaki batter, pours it on the grill, flips the okonomiyaki over, and gives it to the customer. Thanks for reading a feel free to comment below!

Pleo Reborn

 Back in 2009 a company named Innvo labs introduced the world with a new kind of pet, and that pet was a robotic dinosaur. The robot itself didn't sell as much as the company anticipated, and in fact it was kicked of the shelves. But in 2010 the company started to build a new and improved Pleo robot, called the Pleo Reborn. Its a big leap in technology from the first Pleo and it offers more colors, sensors, realistic skin, longer battery life, and it has the ability to "learn" new features. With a U.S. price tag of $499.99 its more expensive than the original Pleo, but remember it has more features than the original one too. improvised walker

 If you have heard of BEAM robots you have probably heard of the one motor bicore walker. The one motor walker uses a circuit called a bicore that makes the motor(s) oscillate instead of turning in a full 360 degree rotation. This makes the robot or walker move forward on its legs. A couple weeks ago I was searching on youtube for one motor walkers and I stumbled upon a video that showed a walker (one motor) without bicore. Now, thats pretty rare to see a robot walker without bicore but somehow I managed to find one on youtube. The creator's youtube channel is http://www.youtube.com/user/galopante78, his videos all show his homemade robots. The way this robot manages to walk without bicore is that it uses a servo motor, vertical/horizontal axis, metal wire, leg rod connector, and a battery pack. The front leg is connected to a horizontal axis and the back leg is vice-versa. The servo motor is located on the middle of the robots chassis, and there is a rod connected to the motor's drive shaft. The two ends on the rod are then connected to each leg so that each time the motor rotates the rod moves the legs move back and fourth thus making the robot walk. window wonder

Researchers and engineers at the Pohang Institute of Intelligent Robotics (PIRO) have came out with a new revolutionary window cleaning robot. The good news is that the robot will be available for consumers very soon, but the bad news is that the price tag isn't looking to thrifty, being at a whopping $260,000 this price tag will narrow down the amount of sales. Then again it has very cool unique features such as using two modules that hug together on each side of the window using strong neodymium magnets. The robot also has distance sensors, obstacle avoidance, spinning pads, and it applies cleaning detergent to the window as it happily scooters along the window. Hopefully later in the future we will be able to purchase better and cheaper window washing robots!

wowwee roboscooper

This robot really loves to scoop up stuff, hence the name roboscooper. Developed by the company wowwee in 2010, this robot scoops, plays, hits, and even makes dump truck noises. You can let him play on his own autonomously or you can control him with a infrared remote control. It uses it two "eyes" to detect things on the floor and scoop them on to his robotic back. This robot is great for kids 8+ and doesn't punch a hole in your wallet either. Maybe someday roboscooper will help people with construction and big jobs! Feel free to comment!

The Robot thats almost Human

Well, this robot isn't really a human being but it does look like one and has some unique features of its own. Nao (pronounced now) is the robot I'm talking about. Back in 2005 project Nao was launched by a french company called Aldebaran Robotics and its main purpose was to replace aibo (robot dog) in the robocup competition. In 2007 that purpose became a reality and the robot is now used in the robocup competition. Nao is an autonomous, programmable, and humanoid robot. It has cameras, microphones, touch sensors, and even wifi. The price tag is a whopping 12,000 dollars. With technology advancing every year, these robots may even become your next house cleaner!

Like I said before irobot also makes military robots. The packbot is one of them. The packbot offers bomb-disposal, toxic-chemical detection, and locating explosives. The packbot 510 is the newest of the packbots, and it goes 30% faster than the older versions of the packbot. It also has twice the gripping strength and can be controlled by a video-game type joy-stick. The packbot is saving lives and is a new innovation in military technology!

If you have been reading this blog or just started I think we all know what irobot is. Irobot is a company that started back in 1990 and was founded by Colin Angle, Rodney Brooks, and Helen Greiner. The most famous robot that the company has sold is called the "roomba" and it is essentially a robot vacuum cleaner. The company also makes military robots, pool cleaning robots, gutter cleaning robots, and much more. With all of these robots and more to come the possibilities are endless.

Just a couple weeks ago I stumbled upon a headline in a robot magazine about a new robot community website called "robotbox." This robot community website lets you share, upload, comment, rate, etc. things related to robots. The website is kind of like a "robot facebook/YouTube/blogger" kind of site. Its free and the sign up is fairly easy. All you need is a user name, password, and of course an email. the beetle bot

The beetle bot is a simple robot that consist of two motors, two SPDT switches, wire, battery pack, and two paperclips. The robot has a simple circuit that when the SPDT switches close they reverse the motor(s) temporarily until the switches open back up. It is a really easy robot designed by Jerome Demers. BEAM symet tutorial

A while ago I built a beam symet robot, and during my building time I noticed no tutorial on youtube on how to build one. I thought to myself, "out of all these tutorials and how to's on youtube there isn't a single beam symet one!" After searching youtube inside and out I decided to make the best tutorial I could make. The tutorial has step by step instructions, HD camera, and of course me. BEAM symet

Last week I recently built a BEAM symet robot. The robot uses a FLED (flashing led) solar engine because it is powered by a solar cell less than 3v and the motor is more than 3v. the solar engine collects energy and sends it to the capacitors (3) and then the capacitors charge up until they are full, and when they are full they unleash that energy to the motor. The way the robot moves is like a litter jitterbug or "twitchy" thing. My symet is now on YouTube and a tutorial will be put up soon too. Thanks for reading and make sure to leave a comment!
