If you're interested in building awesome robotics projects without that much background knowledge, then this book is perfect for you. "Robotics: Discover the Science and Technology of the Future with 20 Projects," is a fairly new book that has 20 simple robotics projects. Although they are simple, they're still amazing. For example, it shows readers how to construct a tilt sensor out a straw and some safety pins. Other projects include actuated arms, a coffee ground gripper, and even an artificial hand.
