The most automated pitching machine I have seen is just a curved tube with a motor. Now, it's a robot built by high school students. Developed by the Detroit-area high school students, this robot is fully capable of hurling a baseball at some stunning speeds. The name chosen for this awesome robot is "Cy-ber Young." The robot uses a SCUBA tank to force a large amount of air through a PVC pipe, and then the air shoots the baseball out.
