Understanding How Applying Kaizen in the Business Process Can Provide Permanent Improvement

.

Kaizen is for improvement and most businesses need such. Because you have to be competitive enough to beat your rivals in the industry, you always have to continue improving. Improvement is not about haste and this is one of the mistakes that people do. In this case, kaizen is the perfect tool that you can utilize in order for you to secure your business' future through good changes. When it comes to applying kaizen in business process, you will have to think about large and small scale improvement. What most individuals choose here is the large scale improvement because we cannot deny how attractive this can be especially when done right. However, in order for you to really be successful in targeting a big change throughout the organization, you will have to think about different areas including your people and the processes that you execute.

Applying kaizen in business process means that you need to think about small first. This is because improvement here is easier and faster. One of the benefits here is that the risks are quite low compared to large scale changes. Risks come in smaller proportions because they have limited effect on the company. The disadvantage however is that if there is an accumulation of the negative effects, it can be detrimental to your firm as compared to a single large change. Today, kaizen is called kaizen blitz or kaizen events especially in the United States. Both of the terms are synonymous to each other and they pertain to a project that is focused, forceful yet concentrated short term project. The main aim here is to improve a certain local process. Two of the main resources here are engineering maintenance and cell operators.

The kaizen events have trainings and analyses which are designed to rearrange the products that are being manufactured. There is usually a consultant who will be leading the entire activity and typically the event will take up to five days.

Applying kaizen in business process after the training will give you results that are dramatic yet immediate and satisfying. In order for you to correctly execute kaizen into your business, you will have to consider the process of slow accumulation of small developments that happen within the organization. Over the years, there are top companies that experienced great effects once they have started applying kaizen in business process.

Kaizen blitz will help your firm in obtaining permanent changes particularly on the methods that are being processed. Aside from that, there is a guarantee of continuous workflow especially on the flow of small ideas. Local implementation is immediate and easy plus the entire process is quick with big effects. Your employees are usually the ones who are involved in applying kaizen in business process. They will have to identify the problem and they will have to develop an idea that is aimed at improving or eliminating the wastes that he was able to keep track of. The supervisor will of course have to participate as well by means of reviewing the action. After that, when the idea is approved, it will be implemented.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/5233489

The objective of a Kaizen Blitz event is to facilitate, train, and assist members of your organization in implementing lean manufacturing practices in order to eliminate waste and improve product quality, availability, and profitability. This process starts with a mandate to improve a selected area process by over 50%.

Nemat, Inc.'s execution of Kaizen Blitzes has resulted in process improvements of 50% to 80%. Our methodology is to work with different teams from our clients operations in to the implementation of projects. We also facilitate workshops and blitz events for the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME).

Vibrobot or Arduino Walker?

.

Now that we know that a handful of people are interested in the kits, we would like to know what kind. The first idea we had for a kit was a simple vibrobot. The robot would resemble a turtle with a circular battery pack, an LED, and a pager motor. It would use its paper clip legs to move around. On the other hand, we had an idea for an Arduino walker. The walker would resemble a four-legged insect with two servos and an Arduino as part of its back. In addition, an infrared sensor would allow the robot to become "aware" of its environment! So the question is, which one would you rather construct? Please vote below!

Robots Protesting Against Killer Robots?

.

This is not the usual robotics post. It turns out that in Britain, some robots are campaigning against the killer, fully-automated robots used for warfare. Their argument is that, some day, these robots could confuse an innocent human with a hostile target. Another point that they have is that taking the "human" out of these fully-automated robots will cause major conflict. Conflict such as killing innocent people due to confusion of who's the bad guy and who's not. The question is, will this deadly conflict arise in the not-so-distant future?

Lean Manufacturing

.

Lean manufacturing is a business performance improvement tool that focuses on enhancing quality, cost, delivery, and people. It helps expose waste and makes continuous improvement possible by identifying and eliminating non-value-adding activities in design, production, supply chain and management.

Striving to improve competitiveness by providing customers faster and better products or services, which will accomplish more than worrying about the next global crisis, is the basic aim behind lean manufacturing. The only game we need to be adept at today is the one that removes waste so the customer sees more value.

In the world of lean manufacturing, companies try to produce only what has been demanded by the customer, and only when the product is required. To optimize benefits of lean throughout the supply chain, it is essential to build a partnership with your suppliers. This partnership must work on the basic principle that you pull only what you consume, and nothing more. Your suppliers restore what you have consumed. In this way, inventories are maintained at their smallest for both dealer and customer.

Achieving this level of trust with your supplier will require frequent communication and extensive sharing of information. Successful partnerships result from inviting each other to strategic planning sessions, attending each other's events and participating in other joint activities.

Unlike many manufacturing trends, lean manufacturing appears to be here to stay. However, many firms are still struggling to figure out how to make lean manufacturing work for them. The title itself implies that companies will emerge from the program leaner than when they began. The term manufacturing suggests that the program targets the manufacturing process, thereby making the products more consumer-friendly.

One good approach is to weave principles, objectives, tools, and methodology behind lean manufacturing into the strategic and business plans of your organization, in order to make lean manufacturing more suitable for your company.

Kaizen Benefits

.

The Japanese have a philosophy which is based on the thought that continuous improvement improves worker productivity. This system is called Kaizen. It is a concept that states change is the absolutely foremost indicator of progress. The system reduces and eliminates unwanted and unproductive waste while consistently improving upon productivity. Human resources are a major factor in this system, with the belief that it is very crucial to encourage and support workers with praising their participation within the system's schedule of activities. Achieving success in this system requires everyone to be involved and participating, from upper management to the lowest paid employee. Concrete benefits are witnessed in companies that uphold the system's strength and follow the implementation of the system down precisely and exactly. Benefits of the Kaizen system are as follows:

Improved Quality: Resources are pooled together and working teams are made stronger, established or reestablished as problems are resolved. The result is seen when production quality improves. New procedures are implemented and work tasks are streamlined therefore making time management more streamlined. Listening to all employee ideas is crucial.

Teamwork Will Improve: The spirit and the confidence of the team will improve as issues are resolved. Employees begin to see their work in a new light and proceed to do their work with new perspectives. Employees will no longer think badly about one another or hold prejudices. When teamwork is improved, the production of work is higher and work flow is smoother.

Maximum Utilization: Salvaging resources means that the resources can be used for their purpose. The benefits will automatically improve worker production as resources are being used in a more resourceful manner. The prioritizing of requirements satisfies the problems of working with limited resources coupled with unlimited demands. Limiting resources and being creative on how resources are used will be helpful to production.

Immediate Results from Troubleshooting: Solving problems happens quickly when issues are immediately confronted. The Kaizen system holds the belief that alternatives available on the spot solve problems faster than traditional ways of lengthy meetings in isolation. Immediate troubleshooting solves production problems by reducing lead time. At times, there are temporary solutions which may be improvised resulting in a permanent change to the process. Basically making sure you solve problems quickly and with innovative ideas is key here.

The Kaizen system provides multiple benefits. Principles of the system are cemented in common sense. The most important ingredients are composed of communication, the participation of all employees, and a desire to change. Changes don't require extreme measures, mathematic calculations, or scientific research. Employees are required to remain keenly observant which largely contributes to the benefits of the system. The Kaizen benefits are grounded in the efforts of employees, by and large by their own attitudes towards the place they work and the company where they work.

How Glass CNC Machining Works

.

CNC (computer numerical control) milling machines evolved from numerically controlled machines developed to create precision rotor blades for helicopters in the 1950s. In the early 1970s, these machines began to be controlled by computers running programs to operate the various motions of the milling tools.

Basically, glass CNC machining automates everything a human operator would have to do to manually mill a piece of glass via information input into the CNC program. Then, the machine replicates with great precision each action to mass produce milling or cutting of glass at a rate and accuracy that cannot be duplicated by a human operator.

Motion Control with CNC Machining

Glass CNC machining utilizes at least two-and as many as four-directions of motion that can be directly programmed by the software. These are called axes. An axis may be a linear direction or circular. The more potential axes a CNC machine is capable of, the more complex and expensive the machine is. Axes are usually designated by letters. Typically, linear axis are designated X, Y, and Z. Circular or rotary axis are normally A, B and C.

Software for CNC Programming

The computer program utilized in glass CNC machining is written in a language called G-Code. The program issues instructions to stepper motors that convert electronic signals into highly accurate mechanical movements that guide the milling tool. The format of the language is configured in sentences and the CNC controller executes the instructions sequentially, one step at a time. A series of words specific to CNC programming communicate to the milling or cutting machine what it's supposed to do.

The words are based on letter addresses that represent certain functions like feedrate and spindle speed, for example. The desired axis motion is indicated by A, B and C or X, Y and Z. Grouped together in a particular sequence, CNC words compose a command that can be compared to a sentence the CNC controller "reads." Most glass CNC machines can be programmed to perform complex milling and cutting operations with glass utilizing a total of 50 common CNC words.

Execution of Glass CNC Control

The CNC control reads the program and executes the commands to the milling tool, actuating the required functions, driving axis motion and following all instructions in the program. Programs can be edited if errors are encountered by the CNC control and dry runs can be executed to verify the program before actual production begins.

Choosing Suitable CNC Machining Services

.

Computer numerical control machining or what is commonly called CNC machining is a process that manufacturers use for easier automation with their machine tools while in production. To date, various companies offer CNC machining services to a wide clientele. If you are planning to lease machining tools to make manufacturing your products easier and more efficient than these services are what you should look for. To help you narrow down your choices of CNC machining services, you may want to consider some factors that you can include in your checklist. To start with, you should consider the type of machine tools that you would need in your production plant. There are CNC machining tools that operate using only one CNC program, while others need dedicated software to run it efficiently. Check whether you need hardness testing equipment, drilling tools, gauges, and several others before you begin contacting several providers to make sure that you know exactly what you need from the company you plan to do business with.

After determining the tools that you will need, start browsing the internet for companies that offer CNC machining services and list down about 4 or 5 that have been in the industry for a long time and have the right tools that you need. Before you include a company in your short list however, read reviews and testimonials from precious clients to have an idea of the level of service that the company can offer. Assistance in troubleshooting, installation, and repair is very important for you to maximize the efficiency of the tools you are using, and a company that can offer this should certainly be considered.

Once your list is down to perhaps two or three CNC machining services providers, contact them personally and give them an overview of what your company does and the types of CNC tools that you would need. Most often than not, these providers will also give you suggestions and offer to check the needs of your business before offering their services. This is also the time when you can negotiate on pricing and ask questions about their services and the solutions that can help you increase your company's production and manufacturing processes. Your decision will rely on the answers that they have given, so make sure that you compare prices for the tools that you need and the machining solutions that will be able to offer your company. Choose the CNC machining service that can offer the lowest rates without compromising quality.

What Is Lean Manufacturing - Kaizen and Continuous Improvement

.

Kaizen and continuous improvement are one in the same thing, the name is Japanese and it has several subtly different meanings, but continuous improvement is best for our purposes.

A popular version of Kaizen is the Kaizen blitz, also known as a Kaizen event. This has become a very useful and common tool in lean manufacturing. Many companies have incorporated it into their business culture very successfully.

What is the origin of Kaizen?

Kaizen was developed by two men from Toyota. Before the recent popularity of the Blitz, kaizen meant 'Continuous Improvement.' This is the slow accumulation of many small developments in processes and quality that, over 50 years, has helped make Toyota the lowest cost and highest quality automobile company in the world.

How does it work?

It would be wonderful if you could manage huge, dramatic, quick changes in lean manufacturing, but that is unreasonable. The beauty of Kaizen and Continuous Improvement is that it is done is small, incremental steps that are entirely doable. The mindset of your workers undergoes a change that is permanent.

It is as if you have a huge and complicated task ahead of you and it just seems impossible. Yet, when it is broken down into small steps, or bite sized chunks, you see that you can actually manage it. This is very encouraging for everyone involved in the lean manufacturing process.

What is a Kaizen blitz?

It is the same thing as a Kaizen event, which is a small, focused attack on a particular aspect of your operation in order to improve its performance. These events are very effective because as you improve each small aspect, they add up to huge overall improvements. This is why it is called continuous improvement: it is an ongoing process that has no end.

In many ways, a kaizen event is a lot like having a disorganized household that you just can't seem to conquer. It is all just so ingrained to be messy, nobody seems to be able to get things under control and put into order. You try all kinds of campaigns, but it is still the same as before.

What is needed is an overall strategy and small incremental steps that are mastered before moving on to the next one. Sure, you must backtrack and improve on what was established, but that is part of the continuous improvement concept. Gradually, everyone in the household begins to develop a new culture and it become a habit to be organized and tidy. Like a lot of lean manufacturing processes, it is really common sense put into an organized approach that is able to be monitored.

Is Kaizen continuous improvement worth it?

Is it worth it to be more efficient and profitable? Yes! Actually, things left to themselves tend to decay, so if you are not continuously improving, then things are deteriorating.

By involving all sections of employees, from CFO to assembly line workers, kaizen events ensure continual improvement of all functions, and more importantly, facilitate the elimination of process waste.

With smaller experiments replacing large-scale preplanning and extended project scheduling, a focused kaizen event consistently delivers small improvements that ensure compound productivity improvement within weeks. While a kaizen blitz is designed to address a specific issue in a week's time, the tangible benefits that the intensive team-based effort offers are clearly visible in a quick and effective manner.

By updating and reviewing things at regular intervals soon after changes happen, the process remains ongoing and everything goes as per plan with kaizen. That kaizen blitz follows a proven, formal process to achieve brilliant results has really made several businesses evince keen interest in the unique daily process. The growing popularity of kaizen events can be seen in their spreading wings from the manufacturing sector to several other industries that look for process improvement.

Why the kaizen process proves indispensable for many businesses is because you can look forward to recording desired results every time by planning out these events and evolve a perfect strategy on how to make use of them to your best abilities. That's why several businesses have come to understand the importance of the intensive team-based attempt and don't want to miss the Godsend opportunity to register terrific improvements in a relatively quick time.

For businesses wanting to attain near perfection, the kaizen blitz comes to serve as the ideal option, enabling them to keep pace with the latest happenings around and quality improvements. Here, what you're going to benefit from is improvements that are based on the latest technologies and other significant factors that assure to largely change the fortunes of a business over a specific period of time. So once you're clear about your exact requirements from your business process improvements, making use of kaizen is going to be a smooth affair all the way.

The History of Lean Manufacturing Practices

.

Lean training in manufacturing refers to a set of practices that are taught to individuals in a company, who can then introduce continuous change practices, cost cutting measures, and energy and waste reduction throughout the company.

Lean certification has many components, and was developed as an identifiable program back in the 1980's and 1990's. Lean training came out of an industry program known as Six Sigma. Six Sigma refers to the levels of training received through a design and implementation process, where different color belts are awarded, similar to judo, as each level is successfully achieved. Six Sigma tends to focus specifically on the design and implementation process, where lean has evolved into a broader, company-wide process including business units, as well as technical and production units.

One of the important aspects of the lean manufacturing process is the inclusion of the Kaizen method for continuous improvement. Kaizen is a Japanese word. It became known in the United States after World War II, when Japanese manufacturing techniques were being closely examined following the war. The word literally means "change for the better", and involves workers at every stage of a production line being aware of productivity and waste, and having a plan in place to communicate changes that can quickly be implemented into the process. The Kaizen methods have been taught separately for decades, but recently have been incorporated into the broader philosophy of lean manufacturing.

As Six Sigma became increasing popular, and manufacturing companies began training many of their employees in the practices, the short comings of the Six Sigma program became easier to identify. Because efficiencies were taking place only in design and implementation departments, the other parts of the company would actually hinder the process by not being able to keep up. If a procurement department is using old methods of ordering and receiving parts, and the rate of using those parts increases, the inefficiencies in the procurement department are going to be made visible to upper management.

This is also true in business departments. If the movement of capital in a company is slow, or moving at a rate that is not efficient, then money cannot be made available fast enough to allow expansion along with the demand created by the design and implementation departments.

Lean certification broadened the training, and included all aspects of a company with regards to continuous improvement and cost cutting. As a result, entire businesses can be transformed into highly efficient and lean units which can quickly respond to the changes in demand, and to the continuous change process.

Lean Manufacturing Will Help Increase Profit Through Waste Elimination

.

Most studies indicate that a large proportion of our time is spent doing non-value added tasks. Lean manufacturing consultants can show you how to increase profit through waste elimination, waste reduction and waste prevention.

It's incredible how much time is spent conducting activities that create unnecessary waste; waste is moving products around, waiting for product or information, dealing with quality problems, chasing suppliers, fixing mechanical breakdowns and much more. In reality, companies that are not lean spend by far too much time on activities that are irrelevant. More time needs to be spent on adding value to the product and a lean manufacturing consultant can show you how.

There can be a huge difference made to your business if these wasteful activities can be reduced and if employees spend more time doing what the customer really wants. Lean will very simply reduce your costs and therefore increase your profits.

Waste reduction is a major component of lean manufacturing.

Value Add vs Non-Value Add

There are two parts to any work, a portion that adds value and a portion that does not add value, but what is "value add"? Something adds value if it physically alters the product or service to what the customer truly wants.

If you think about it, you are paying for every non-value adding activity in your company; the cost of each comes directly out of profits. Each non-value adding operation you can eliminate will add to your profit and this in turn, will please shareholders.

Non-Value adding operations are simply waste. Something is only adding value if it meets an explicit customer requirement and cannot be shown to be performed more economically. Implementing lean manufacturing can help you to reduce or eliminate these wastes.

The Wastes

Transportation: The movement of products between different operations and locations. Of course transportation cannot be totally eliminated but more often than not many manufacturers are poorly organized and transportation of goods within a warehouse to external transportation is more often than not lean.

Inventory: Generally the vast amounts of material held as both finished product and work in progress are driven by traditional manufacturing's tendency to run enormous batches to maximize machine efficiency and to insulate against problems. Lean manufacturing can change this.

Motion: The unnecessary movement of a machine or a person. For example, picking up heavy items at floor level to relocate to a workable height or machines that have to travel excessive distances before actual work commences.

Waiting: People or machinery that sits idle waiting for previous operations, item delivery, information, problem solving, or other potential interruptions.

Overproduction: Producing an order that the customer does not want until a later date leads to unnecessary inventory.

Over-Processing: Doing unnecessary work such as polishing surfaces that are never seen.

Defects: The products that are incorrectly manufactured that leads to reproducing, scrap, delays, additional paperwork, additional employee hours, etc.

A lean manufacturing consultant will show you how your company will eliminate all these wastes and maximize profits.

Lego NXT CNC Machine is Almost Complete!

.

After a couple hours of hardcore lego-building, the CNC machine is almost done. A few more rails, guides, and frames need to be added to improve the machine's overall performance. The video above shows what it can do right now. Currently, it can draw an almost-perfect 90 degree angle!

Lego NXT CNC Machine to Help Build Circuits

.

Tonight, I began my next Lego project. This one, I have to say, is probably the hardest. This is because it's a 3 axis CNC machine. The sole purpose of this project is to help me make more circuit boards for projects. I also think it's pretty neat to have a Lego CNC machine laying around. Anyways, after about two hours of hardcore tinkering and building, here's the progress. Feel free to comment or to give any recommendations!

Custom PCB's, Plastics, and More!

.

Making robots at home is really enjoyable. What's even better is when you can custom make your own parts! So that's exactly what I've been working on. After a little research, I figured out how to make custom plastic parts and custom PCB's! For the plastic, I will use simple molds from nuts, bolts, and other items of that matter. I will then melt down some InstaMorph plastic beads for the molds. For the PCB's, I will use the copper clad and ferric chloride method. Along with the drilling of course. For now, I have two PCB's made. These two, in fact, are for the official SimpleBot. Thanks for reading and I'll be updating you guys with photos of the progress.

Kaizen - Lean Manufacturing Training

.

The concept of "Kaizen" in lean manufacturing is generally known as rapid improvement. The Japanese word actually means a business philosophy of continuous improvement, although it is sometimes debated that it just means improvement.

In most lean manufacturing implementations, a Kaizen is a project comprised of a few people that work together to make a rapid and substantial change. During a lean implementation, which is often conducted over a matter of a year or years, there would be many "kaizen events".

The kaizen event is a tool to solve a problem. For example, suppose a hospital wants to improve the average wait time for a routine scan. The leader of the kaizen would assemble a team to work toward a solution to the problem. The team is generally a cross functional team, such as various individuals that work in, near, and might be impacted by the department. You wouldn't want the only individuals working on the team to be from the department, as they may not have a wide enough view of the situation and would potentially have pre-conceived ideas. That old "we tried that before" mentality might exist with some in the department.

Even with a cross functional team, it is important for the leader to set the stage with a discussion about everyone keeping an open mind. The team often follows other lean principles, such as Plan-Do-Check-Adjust. In other words, they will develop an idea and give it a try, then adjust based on the outcome.

Kaizens events generally do not last long, sometimes just a few days. Often, the team will leave their normal jobs to join the team for the duration of the project. The time period depends on the project's needs and requirements, but it is not a long drawn out ordeal.

A kaizen is usually about gaining substantial improvement in a short time. In the example of, suppose the average wait time is 45 minutes. The kaizen might have a mission of cutting this in half. The mission might read; Reduce scan wait time from 45 minutes to 22 minutes in 8 days.

The team generally will use a conference or training room for the duration of the project. Individuals should be able to focus on the project and no have to do two jobs and be interrupted for decisions unrelated to the project.

The team should have access to the data they need to complete the project. However, individuals should either verify the data, or collect their own.

After the team completes the project, they generally make a presentation to the department and upper management. There is also usually a celebration for the accomplishment.

Kaizen Blitz Event Steps

.

The steps involved in a Kaizen Blitz event by Nemat, Inc. are:

1. Initial Analysis of Process

We will start the project with analysis of the process which includes:

    • Blitz area selection
    • Team selection
    • Development of a contract and a mandate
    • Video taping the entire process

We will work with key members of your staff to select up to 15 people from operations and support groups to participate full time in the Kaizen Blitz event. ?The contract is an empowerment statement from management to the Kaizen Blitz team. ?The mandate is an aggressive yet achievable goal for the team. The videotape will be used during the Kaizen Blitz event for process analysis and brainstorming.

2. Kaizen Blitz Event:
The Kaizen Blitz event itself will take 5 to 8 full days. All participants will be attending the event full time 8 hours per day Activities include:

    • Full day of training
    • Process analysis &, baseline measurement
    • Video brainstorming
    • Development & implementation of new processes
    • Formal presentation of the Blitz process and accomplishment

Disruption to production during the changes is minimal due to planning implementations either during production down time or by implementing a parallel line where possible.

3. Follow Up:
A member of our staff will remain behind for 5 to 10 days after the Blitz to work with the Blitz team and assure smooth transition from Blitz to routine operation. Our staff member will work with the Blitz team in the Blitz area full time to:

    • Debug the process
    • Assure timely completion of all remaining action items
    • Assure the new process is institutionalized

Kaizen Blitz - How to Improve Operation By 50% Immediately

.

Are you looking for a way to increase your company's production by 50% within a very short while? The easiest way to do this is by conducting a Kaizen Blitz event in your organization. Kaizen, or the management concept of continuous improvement, is already very popular in the manufacturing sector but the quicker variant is now gaining a lot of popularity.

A Kaizen Blitz is an event that has a mandate to improve a particular manufacturing or business process by at least 50%. This is achieved by training and helping employees implement various Lean practices that are relevant to that particular business process. A Kaizen Blitz involves the analysis of the process followed by which the actual blitz takes place. Employees will have to work together in focused and rapid activity to identify areas of waste and eliminate them without delay. There is generally a lot of brainstorming during this event.

This fast-paced Kaizen activity generally takes place within a week. However, the event will only be concluded if the follow-up has taken place in order to ensure that the changes are truly beneficial to the organization.

Many management experts and also senior managers in organizations do not like the concept of this Kaizen activity because they feel that it disrupts the flow of work without providing any lasting benefits. In fact, it can be said that the changes that it brings about are not necessarily good ones because they are arrived at too fast. According to lean management concepts, sustainable and productive change will only occur if the various processes are studied with a great deal of care.

Even so, there are quite a few advantages of Kaizen Blitz:

1. It gives immediate results. Learning can be translated into action without any delay.

2. It results in high motivation. Employees are amazed to see that their suggestions are implemented almost as soon as they are made. This gives them the desire to keep searching for other ways of improving work processes.

3. Improves communication in the organization. These occasional bursts of activity help people stay alert about Lean systems and Kaizen.

Your operation will improve by 50% to 80% from Kaizen Blitz activities as long as you conduct them properly. Also, you'll need to focus on proper Kaizen and not just on frequent blitzes to get the actual benefit of this management style which looks for continuous improvement that is sustained over a period of time.

Quality Assurance Policy

.

Nemat Inc. Quality Assurance Policy is to meet customer’s specifications as noted on the products drawings and standards.  We will strive to exceed these specifications if it can be accomplished without sacrificing cost or lead time objectives.  All specifications MUST be communicated and updated in writing; hence verbal communications are not accepted.

This is accomplished by thoroughly understanding customers’ specification and developing a “Capable Process” to achieve them.  This process is documented and is used as “Standard Work”.  All employees MUST follow this process exactly to assure compliance with “Copy Exact” expectations.

Employees performing work are ultimately responsible to produce products to set specifications.  A “Check-Do-Check” in process procedure is established to increase the possibility of identifying and correcting errors as they occur in real time.  This process is implemented from Order Entry to Engineering/Programming to Production and through the Shipping processes.

The Quality Assurance Department is established to monitor adherence to processes and specifications for internal and contracted work.  This is accomplished by developing quality standards and ensuring employees’ and suppliers’ adherence to such standards.  All employees and Quality Assurance personnel are authorized to stop any non-conformance and escalate the issue up to and including the customer.  Issues MUST be reviewed, root caused, and corrected expeditiously.

We guarantee conformance to specifications and stand behind the products and services we provide.  Our performance reviews, reward programs, and disciplinary action policy are developed based on employees following quality standards and producing quality products and services.

Brain-Dead Robots Prove They Can Swarm Together

.

What has no brain, no computer, but can swarm? The answer is simply a bristle bot. Just recently, roboticists at Harvard discovered that even brainless bristlebots are able to swarm and form groups. The experiment consisted of a small area and a bucket-load of bristle bots. Right away the robots started to swarm together in a corner of the area.

You may be wondering, how does this swarming even occur? Well, my guess is that each robot just keeps bouncing off each other. Take the small area these bots were placed in for example. Since the robots were packed together closely, then they just kept running into each other. This process of bumping and running into each other was just repeated over and over again. To sum this all up, nothing really scientific or extraordinary took place. Even so, the video of the swarming robots is still entertaining to watch!

Terminator Hand is Able to Tie Shoe Laces, Leaves Real Hands Behind

.

For too long, amputees have had to use primitive hooks and limbs that attach to their arms or nubs. With new technology, however, that will all change. So far, these prosthetic and robotic arms have been able to perform simple, mundane tasks. As opposed to those tasks. Special robotic arms, as opposed to the other ones, can now tie shoe laces. This goes to show how dexterous these arms and hands really are. Even later on as new technology is introduced, these arms will just keep advancing until they match the human hand. Perhaps they'll surpass the human hand in the near future. Thanks for reading and check out the video above to see it in action.

Japan to launch their own robot into space by this summer!

.

Currently, Opportunity and Curiosity are roaming the surface of Mars, and they're the only robots in space. That all ends, however, this summer. According to Dentsu inc. a robot named Kirobo will be sent to the ISS (international space station) to communicate with humans. Dentsu has also stated on their site that the launch will occur this summer, and the robot will be onboard this fall. Now the robot itself has some pretty nifty features built in. For example, it can understand Japanese speech, withstand zero-g environments, and even recognize faces. Aside from all its special features, Kirobo is a robot based of a consumer kit called Ribo. It has also been designed from the same person who developed Evolta ( a robot that completed a triathlon). Kirobo, however, has just been upgraded to be capable of space travel. RASSOR, NASA's Robotic Solution for Creating Rocket Fuel in Space

.

On every space exploration, rocket fuel is vital. As a result, NASA is developing a new type of robot that will mine on the moon. RASSOR is what they call it, and they plan to use this robot to help create rocket fuel in space. Using special claws on each of its sides, RASSOR will dig and mine through the moons soil and gain necessary ingredients to make rocket fuel. Along with this lunar robot, NASA also plans to create miniaturized factories to create the rocket fuel right on the planet's surface. If the RASSOR robot is successful, then astronauts won't have to take any second trips back to earth to refuel. All this will then lead to longer ventures into space.

Watch out! Boston Dynamics Big Dog Can Now Hurl Cinder Blocks!

.

If you thought Big Dog's extreme stability was amazing, think again! Now equipped with a high-tech robotic arm, Big Dog is able to hurl heavy cinder blocks over a few yards away. However, its not the arm doing all the work. With the clever designs from Boston Dynamics, this robot uses its legs to maneuver in a special way to aid its throwing arm. If you pay attention to the movement of its legs as it vigorously throws the brick, you'll notice that they jerk in unison with the swaying arm. Both its legs and arm work together and achieve great strength. A strength that can even hurl a big brick several feet into the air. Hexbug Nano V2 habitat sets!

.

Yesterday's post was all about the new Hexbug Nano V2's, and we also wrote a few speculations for the new habitat sets. Today, however, we have actual photos of what the sets may look like. Based on other sets, I'm guessing that this one may rest on a price of $30. Thanks for reading and follow us to stay updates!

Introducing the all new Hexbug Nano V2

.

If you an avid fan for the Hexbug robots, then you probably already know that the Hexbug Nano's were sold the most. Aside from that, Innovation First has revealed (not 100% confirmed) a new type of Hexbug Nano. Unlike its predecessor, the all new Nano V2 will be able to climb vertical slopes. Yes, that's right, vertical slopes. Using multiple "arms" on its back, this Hexbug will be able to climb in and out of vertical tubes. This feature also points to the fact that new "Habitat" sets will be released later on. These sets will include intricate tubes and pathways that the Nano V2 can explore. Although a release date hasn't been confirmed, we'll probably start seeing these in the fall, perhaps the summer. I will also try to get more information such as prices and official release dates. As of now, you can expect these critters to cost around $10. Thanks for reading and please follow us to stay updated!

Robots to help at Fukushima Nuclear Plants

.

Over the next few decades, Japan will be integrating robots into its task of cleaning up the nuclear power plant mess at Fukushima. Some robots have already been developed. For example, a few tracked robots are equipped cameras and can be controlled via a computer. Others can dive right into wet environments that are hazardous to humans. Even major companies such as Mitsubishi have helped out by developing robots to get the job done. Lets just hope another accident doesn't happen between know and the clean up

Made in Madera

.

Printed by the Fresno Bee on February 3, 2013

Frustrated at jobs getting shipped overseas, a Madera manufacturer is launching a line of "Made in America" products.

The Nemat Management Group employs 30 people on Road 24 in Madera. Normally, they make machinery that other manufacturers use to make their products, such as grape-processing equipment or machinery that makes solar panels.

But owner Mike Nemat wants to start making products that are often now made in China. The company already is manufacturing the TV Mighty Mount, a metal mounting system for flat-screen TVs. The company will start taking orders on its website soon and hopes to find a retailer to sell the Mighty Mount.

Nemat also is considering making woodworking equipment and theft-proof mailboxes. High quality, simple design and a process with little waste can keep American-made products competitive and costs down, he said.

"I believe in making American products," he said. "I think manufacturing should have stayed in the United States. It shouldn't have gone offshore."

Clay Robot Sculptures on Etsy.com

Lets set aside the deadly, servo driven, and programmable robots for a few moments and look at robots on the good side. On etsy.com (eBay for arts and crafts) I came across a store named "Robots are Awesome." They sell intricate robot sculptures crafted out of clay, wire, and other small knickknacks. Some of these little robots are made to be put on the shelve, and some are even created to be on top of wedding cakes. Even if those kind of robots don't appease your taste for art, then you can have a custom robots sculpted for you. The Made in USA line from Nemat features the Mighty Mount television mounting system, which fits of a wide range of sizes.

A Madera-based company is launching a new line of “Made in USA” products that will maintain and possibly increase manufacturing jobs in the San Joaquin Valley.

Nemat, Inc. is developing and manufacturing products made entirely in the United States, starting with their “Mighty Mount” television mounting system, an anodized aluminum product that allows the mounting of a wide range of television sizes. Owner Mike Nemat said Mighty Mount is available online through Amazon or directly from his company, because retailers were hesitant about stocking the product.

“They want more Chinese products for two dollars that they can mark up,” Nemat said.

Originally designed for flat screen TVs, Mighty Mount can hold up to 2,500 pounds. Prices range from $55 to $90 for mini, small, medium and large sizes.

Nemat, Inc. will offer a removable swimming pool fence that can also be used to enclose a front yard for parties or other events and a device that monitors children within a 10 to 20 foot range.

“It’s good for using at the mall and other places,” Nemat said. “It can be connected to an iPhone or cell phone. It lets you know where your kids are.”

Nemat opened the pricision machining shop on a $2 million investment in 2009, creating 30 news jobs.
